India :

Growing popularity of the Cricket in India is the main cause for other sports to lose their charm. Sports like hockey, tennis, and football are losing popularity among the audience. Even the government is neglecting other sports including hockey as cricket fetches more revenue than all other sports combined.

Hockey, the national game of India, is now slowly being neglected. Because of fewer sponsors, people are not finding interest in Hockey. However, Hockey, as many of us are unknown about its facts, has a golden history in India.

Golden Era of Hockey
Hockey in India was introduced by British. It was when the British army regiments played the game; the Indian regiments also picked up the game and then followed the tradition of playing the game of hockey. Then gradually this game was adopted by the masses.

Hockey in India saw its first ever in house hockey club in Calcutta, which was formed in the year 1885-86, then followed the formation of hockey clubs in Bombay and Punjab. Slowly and gradually, this game gained its importance amongst the masses and more and more people started playing it.

In between 1928 and 1956, India won six consecutive gold medals in the Olympics, and won all 24 matches played. There were some legendary players in the history of Hockey in India that includes Dhyan Chand, K.D. Singh, Dhanraj Pillay and Dilip Tirkey.

Present Condition of Hockey
In the present scenario, cricket is more important. There are many forms of cricket and each form is more beneficial for the country’s GDP. The Income Tax, excise, and other similar departments are happy, and so are the players.

Sponsors are showing interest only in cricket, because they have the guarantee of returns. This makes other sports fund less. Media also popularizing only cricket, as if other games do not exist at all.

Being our national sport, hockey should get special importance. It should not be neglected. There are people who are interested in hockey, but are not getting required support, coaching, and motivation. Government should encourage all sports equally to make India all-rounder.

If government takes special interest, then definitely sponsors will also come. However, when approached it said that it does not have enough funds to conduct an international level tournament of Hockey in India. However, it does have several millions to offer to the cricket team after each match.

Its the sheer apathy that the Indians are showing towards their national game. I can't make it out why this is done...why the national game is neglected... ppl now prefer playing cricket Only because there is more money, more fame than playing hockey...our nation in particular and the sports body that looks after hockey need to take the special care of these things but before our national game disappears form the field and minds of the people..

I wonder if people even know that they have a national game!!! Ask the young gen and they show a blank face. Everyone is occupied just by his or her own concerns. There is no other world for most apart from the immediate surroundings... If something HOT flashes on the TV screen, they may talk about it for a day or two to forget about it and continue with their own lives.

But it is surprising that such people take out time by taking offs or bunking their work/schools/colleges to watch cricket!!!

When games move peoples emotions more than real issues it tells how primitive and easily fooled the brains of the weak are
When people need a foolish child’s game to modivate them ,then we are deep in darkness
Sports are symbolism’s for the most part from our past to build strenght, endurance, and many other things to survive in the early harsh years , the better shape the best chance of getting food ,lodging ,fighting off enemies and getting the strongest gens to carry on our race, but now it is used as part of brain washing as to say my people are better than yours ,all as part of strongest gene servival trick,
Watch young animal and birds in nature doing things just to strengthen up for the harsh life of maturity
Will these words of logic be heard —No -because of peoples primitive state

When people started neglecting hockey the press and the government completely erased a sport.
when a cricket match is going on u can see lot of politicians and even cine stars encouraging them.. If they would have done the same thing for hockey atleast people would have not forgotten this game

i feel hockey is bit slow game in comparison to cricket and football. or may be, hockey is not that aggressive as cricket and football.

Actually, hockey is getting neglected in every country other than India to some extent.

In todays world there are a very few sportsmen who would like to join a sport where there is no money or recognition involved. It is very very sad know that hockey is a dying sport in India and neither the government nor private organizations are interested.

India is a democratic country.Everyone has the right to watch whatever one likes.Majority of the people like Cricket than Hockey and so cricket has become so popular which inturn has increased the sponsorships and etc...Even in the midst of cricket fever, people still know gr8 hockey players like Dhanraj pillai. So the only solution for this problem cud be Indians shud start performing at the international level in Hockey.Only by then they can attract more sponsors and TV viewers.

It’s all the matter of getting sponsors and commercial forces highlighting the cricket for their own benefit. BCCI has become the richest cricket body of world. Who would not like to play cricket? If people will get reward and money in hockey they will surely go for it. Media can play an important role in promoting the hockey.

Even the Media is after money, my friend. Gone are the days when the newspapers and other modes used to publish things that were intended to arise the youth/citizens for a cause. For example, even the Saamna of Thackeray’s lost its purpose of exposing corruption as its publishers themselves started using the paper to gain publicity. Checkout the kind of programs on TV and you will find that they are all some or the other kind of gimmicks to gain more TRPs.

And we cannot blame them. For example, when I used to write my mind out, nobody was interested. Now I write what people want to read and it sells.. This is where we are all heading…

That's why I asked media to promote the hockey.Cricket has gone commercial that's why it's surviving. Why, we are not getting sponsors for hockey? In fact Indian hockey federation needs an efficient CEO to make it commercial.

It is amazing how much importance people put on sports and it’s effect on culture
These posts are examples of cultural brainwashing at it’s best
No wonder we have no adults when adults can’t escape childhood games that were only used in the past to help fight for survival
We will never solve world problems when humans can’t grow past childhood games
Thus dizzy turns to dizzy
